July 3, 2006 - The Metro Fire Agency is excited to award the bid for purchase of firefighter turnout gear to Weidner Fire.  Weidner Fire is a FireDex Vendor and featured FireDex Elite Gear in the bid.  All of the bidding vendors provided excellent  products but the combination of quality, standard features, and price pushed the FireDex gear to the top for the bid review committee.  Bids are also being awarded to L.N. Curtis & Sons, Ross Equipment Company, and Weidner Fire for the purchase of firefighting gloves, hoods, helmets, and boots.

Member agencies will purchase equipment on this bid through their individual city purchasing systems.  It is anticipated that up to sixty sets of gear will be purchased through this bid.

This is the Metro Fire Agency’s first joint bid and purchasing project and we are very excited with the savings that has been realized through this process.  This has laid the groundwork for upcoming projects.

June 19, 2006 - Nationwide drowning claims the lives of nearly 3,000 people every year. Here in Utah seven people have drown since April 6, 2006.  Although all age groups are represented, children four years old and younger have the highest death rate due to drowning.  Most drowning and near-drowning incidents happen when a child falls into a pool or is left alone in the bathtub.  Here locally the high, fast running rivers present a special hazard.

Please take a moment to print these information sheets Drowning Fact Sheet - Pool Safety and review the information.
